چکیده

This paper introduces the logical basis for mod elling the phenomenon of reasoning in the pres ence of contradiction, by identifying this prob lem with the notion of change of context. We give here the basic definitions of a new seman tics, which works by interpreting one logic into a family of logics via translations, which we call semantics of translations. As a particular ap plication we show that a simple logic support ing contradictions can be constructed translat ing classical logic into three-valued logics. This translation semantics offers a new interpreta tion to certain paraconsistent logics which al lows the application of them to automated rea soning and knowledge representation.

Sentiment Classification of Movie and Product Reviews Using Contextual Valence Shifters

We present a method for determining the sentiment expressed by a customer review. The semantic orientation of a review can be positive, negative, or neutral. Our method counts positive and negative terms, but also takes into account contextual valence shifters, such as negations and intensifiers. Tests are done taking both negations and intensifiers into account, and also using only negations w...

Reasoning with conditionals containing negated constituents.

Three experiments investigated matching bias in conditional reasoning tasks. Matching bias occurs when Ss ignore negations and match named items. Experiment 1 used an abstract and a thematic version of Evans's (1972) construction task. Results showed that matching may be due to an interaction between task demands and constructing contrast classes when interpreting negations. Experiment 2, which...

Simulating Conditional Reasoning Containing Negations: A Computer Model and Human Data

Moddeling human conditional reasoning of the type “if p then q” containing negations poses a challenge for connectionism. A network of spiking neurons (INFERNET) was used to model this type of conditional reasoning. This model also provides insights on certain human limitations. The model is compared to empirical data, and classical explanations. Statistical analysis shows that the model’s perf...

On Being Contradictory

This paper discusses recognizing and producing contradictions. After illustrating the phenomena of contradiction, the paper presents conceptual classes of contradiction and gives an overview of the how they can be recognized. The next part discusses the construction of contradictions, in particular with respect to contradicting historic events. The object of this paper is to examine the computa...

Concept Graphs without Negations: Standardmodels and Standardgraphs

In this article, we provide different possibilities for doing reasoning on simple concept(ual) graphs without negations or nestings. First of all, we have on the graphs the usual semantical entailment relation |=, and we consider the restriction ` of the calculus for concept graph with cuts, which has been introduced in [Da02], to the system of concept graphs without cuts. Secondly, we introduc...
